THE 4Cs OF DIAMONDS

CHAPTER 1

The 4Cs. We’ve all heard about them— and, of course, how important they are. But why are they so important? What exactly are the 4Cs and why do you need to know about them Think of the 4Cs as a diamond’s DNA. Each diamond, just like a human being, is unique, no two are exactly alike. As a result, it can be hard to understand what to look for when shopping for a diamond. That’s where the 4Cs come in. Through analyzing a diamond’s 4Cs, you can determine much about its makeup and appearance.

he 4Cs— cut, color, clarity, and carat-weight— are simply a way of describing the different qualities of a diamond. Cut, color, and clarity are qualities graded by gemological experts, while carat is a weight measurement that can give you an idea of a diamond’s overall size.

Generally, the heavier a diamond’s carat weight and higher its cut, color, and clarity grades, the rarer and more expensive it will be. But you don’t have to buy an exorbitantly expensive, diamond to get a beautiful diamond. Rarity may define a diamond’s price, but it doesn’t always define its beauty.

At the end of the day, what is a diamond all about? It’s about adding beauty to someone’s life. Remember, you don’t need to select a “perfect” diamond, only the diamond that’s perfect for you.
